Netaji Boseâs Grandnephew Demands Apology From Fauzi Makers Over Hitler Scene

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s grandnephew, Chandra Kumar Bose, has strongly criticized the makers of the upcoming Prabhas-starrer Fauzi, directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, for allegedly "distorting" historical facts. The objection arose from a scene showing Netaji introducing the lead character to Adolf Hitler, which several netizens on social media argued diminishes Netaji's historical stature. The scene, which may or may not be part of the film, was seen in the recent glimpse, released on Prabhas' birthday.
Shyam Benegal’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero (2005) faced objections from extended family members and affiliated political groups like the All India Forward Bloc. Opponents raised serious concerns over sensitive personal depictions. For example, Bose's alleged secret marriage to Emilie Schenkl and other controversial theories surrounding his death were denied. This movie led to public protests that forced the cancellation of the film's premiere in Kolkata.

Allegation: Fauzi glimpse diminishes Netaji’s historical stature
Speaking to IANS, Chandra Kumar Bose stated that while creative freedom is important, altering historical facts when portraying national icons is a crime. He noted that Netaji approached Axis leaders solely to seek international backing for India’s independence, engaging with them as an equal rather than a subordinate. At the time of writing, no statement was put out by Hanu Raghavapudi.
Netaji’s family has objected to film portrayals before
The opposition from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's family to depictions of his life in cinema centers on historical accuracy and preserving his legacy. In the case of Gumnaami (2019), the grandnephew and numerous family members strongly decried the film's narrative. They issued legal notices and publicly criticized the director for exploring theories suggesting Netaji lived as the ascetic Gumnaami Baba in Faizabad. As per them, DNA tests had already debunked this claim and they asserted that such speculation disrespected his memory.Shyam Benegal’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero (2005) faced objections from extended family members and affiliated political groups like the All India Forward Bloc.
